The company was established through the collaboration of experienced professionals Chelsea Combs and Ken Combs, combining their expertise in remodeling, project management, and client service. Chelsea, with a background in executive recruitment, brought her ability to identify top talent and ensure excellent communication throughout the renovation process.

Ken, with his years of experience in the home construction and remodeling industry, offered invaluable knowledge and operational expertise. Together, they created Green Hill Contracting to serve Durham, NC, and surrounding areas, ensuring a high standard of work and client satisfaction.

Chelsea is the heart behind Green Hill and a fourth-generation Bull City native, so her connection to the Triangle runs pretty deep.

Before founding Green Hill, Chelsea built her career in executive recruitment, which gave her a strong instinct for finding good people and building a team that genuinely enjoys working together. After earning her MBA from NC State and spending years in the corporate world, Chelsea was ready for a change and wanted to build something of her own. She created Green Hill around a pretty simple idea: do great work, communicate well, take care of people, and build the kind of company you’d want working in your own home. Chelsea has a particular love for the older homes and neighborhoods she grew up around. For her, renovating in the Triangle feels personal. These are the communities her family has called home for generations, and preserving what makes them special while helping them work for modern life is a big part of what Green Hill is all about.

She’s a busy stepmom who is usually planning the next fun thing for her family and has always had an incredible way of making time for the people who matter to her. She could be training for a marathon one weekend, traveling to the beach the next, or happily planted on the couch for a movie night. Add in an occasional trip, three very loved dogs, horses, mini donkeys, family time, and the occasional mahjong game with the Green Hill ladies, and “downtime” becomes a pretty flexible term.

She works hard, loves her tribe even harder, and is rarely without something fun on the calendar.

Taylor is the person behind a lot of what you see and hear about Green Hill before we ever step foot in your home. She tends to have about twelve things going at once, somehow knows exactly where all of them stand, and will probably crack a joke somewhere in the middle of the chaos. Her history with Chelsea goes back 13 years, long before Green Hill existed. Early in their careers, Chelsea actually stepped into Taylor’s role as her backfill. Years later, Taylor was right alongside her as Chelsea began to think through what it would look like to leave corporate and build Green Hill. So when Taylor eventually put her hat in the ring to lead the marketing side of the company, she already knew the person, the story, and the heart behind the brand pretty well. Chelsea is practically an aunt to Taylor’s kids, so calling this a close-knit team is putting it mildly. She handles social media, events, partnerships, awards, community outreach, client experiences, and whatever slightly questionable social media idea she has managed to talk the team into that week.

For Taylor, marketing Green Hill is less about telling people who we are and more about letting them see it for themselves. The projects matter, but so do the people behind them, the relationships we build with our clients, and the personality that makes this team a little different.

Outside of work, Taylor is in full working-mom mode with two kids and a big family, and has coined the phrase “Mom’s make it happen.” She loves traveling with her crew, a good pool day, movie nights at home, and squeezing in a mahjong game whenever she can. She talks a lot, laughs even more, and there’s a pretty good chance the words “I have an idea” are about to get the whole team involved.

At Green Hill, Isaiah leads construction operations with an emphasis on quality, accountability, and clear communication, ensuring clients are informed and aligned at every stage of a project.

He is a U.S. Army veteran and a dedicated father. Outside of work, he spends time with his family and pursues interests in rock climbing and reading, with a focus on history, philosophy, and science.

Jenn has worn a lot of hats, which is pretty convenient when your job involves keeping dozens of moving pieces moving. A Raleigh native and Meredith College graduate, she holds a degree in Business Administration and Marketing and has more than eight years of experience in real estate. At Green Hill, she keeps the details organized, the communication flowing, and the rest of us from wondering where that one very important thing went. She’s thoughtful, dependable, bilingual, and has an impressive ability to juggle a lot without making it look nearly as chaotic as it probably is.

Jenn is also our resident sports encyclopedia. She loves the Canes and can casually drop a stat about just about any sport into a conversation. Her planning skills definitely follow her outside of work too. When Jenn travels, she already knows the best restaurants, local shops, and spots worth checking out before the plane even lands. Her trips always end up looking Instagram-worthy, while the rest of us are still trying to get one decent group photo.

When she isn’t keeping Green Hill organized, you’ll probably find her at a game, at the gym, traveling, or at the mahjong table with Chelsea, Taylor, and Gracen.

He loves taking a space that isn’t quite working and finding the solution that makes it click. Better flow, smarter function, cleaner execution. Those are the details that get him excited. Ryan is also big on communication and building relationships with homeowners. And if there’s a pet in the house, consider that relationship already started. He has yet to meet a dog, cat, snake, or four-legged jobsite supervisor he doesn’t like.

Outside of work, Ryan loves hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, bonfires with his wife, spending time with his family and wood-burning art. Basically, give him something to build, an animal to befriend, and he’s pretty happy.

GRACEN MALPASS

Interior Designer

Gracen is the person thinking about how your home looks and how you’re actually going to live in it. A graduate of Appalachian State University’s interior design program, she brings a fresh eye, a lot of energy, and an impressive ability to keep a hundred design details straight at once. Around the office, calling her a design machine is only a slight exaggeration. She loves digging into the details, talking through the why behind a design decision, and helping homeowners create spaces that look great, function even better, and still feel like home. Because around here, a gorgeous kitchen that doesn’t actually work for your family isn’t really doing its job.

Gracen also has deep roots in North Carolina and strong ties throughout the Raleigh community. We’re fairly convinced there isn’t a restaurant, event, neighborhood, or random place around town where she doesn’t know at least one person. Her bubbly personality makes her easy to talk to, but she’s also incredibly knowledgeable and loves helping clients understand the design process instead of just handing them a stack of selections.

Outside the studio, you’ll find her restaurant-hopping around Raleigh, cheering on NC State, heading to the beach, or at the mahjong table with Chelsea, Jenn, and Taylor. Fair warning, though: Gracen is a bit of a card shark, so don’t let the bubbly personality fool you.

I have recently had a new opportunity to work with Chelsea Combs, owner of Green Hill Contracting. In past years as a Realtor working in and around communities  in Durham and Chapel Hill, we have partnered with GHC to perform specific client upgrades. The team at Green Hill Contracting has always been very good to work with and our clients have been very happy with their projects.
This year I was given an opportunity to represent Green Hill Contracting on a major house sale for a home they purchased and completely re-imagined in Chapel Hill at 407 Granville Rd.
I was brought in mid way through the remodel and was able to see how thoughtfully they approached this project. In the end they created an extraordinary home that allowed me to sell for them to a great family.

Not only was their remodel process thorough and thoughtful but their whole support team was available to brainstorm and partner with me on this home sale. They built a beautiful home with both time appropriate features and amenities while staying true to the original design of the home. The result was a home that 'felt right' and 'made sense' and was BEAUTIFUL!

I hired Greenhill to help me with a checklist of changes throughout my house, rather than a single room renovation. They redid a master shower, swapped out vanities and lights in several bathrooms, and redid my kitchen countertops and backsplash, as well as some drywall and paint work. Chelsea kept my project on track in the midst of her wedding! Isaiah and all the subs were great to work with. Everyone was trustworthy and communicative. Small bumps along the way were quickly taken care of and they have been in touch post-project as well. We used Green Hill Contracting to build an art studio with some storage space - to replace an old detached garage that was destroyed by a tree that fell in a storm. We went with Green Hill Contracting because we had used them on kitchen remodel project a couple of years ago and had a fantastic experience. And we are so glad we did because it was another fantastic experience.

Chelsea and Ken met with us to understand our needs and suggest their own ideas on details like flooring, skylights, etc. The footprint was pretty small so the space had to very carefully designed. Once we were ready to go, Isaah was assigned to be our project manager and he was really wonderful  to work with. He did a great job coordinating all the various sub-contractors and making adjustments as we went along to satisy small tweaks that wer wanted. Most importantly, he was very responsive and kept us constantly informed of timelines and next steps. I should put in a word for the subcontractors that Green Hill Contracting uses - they are really top notch.

Green Hill Contracting did a great job on my two mini bathroom remodels, and I’m very happy with the results. They were the only company willing to take on my smaller project, and they were easy to work with.  Isaiah, the project manager, was especially great—always responsive to my texts and questions, which gave me a lot of peace of mind. It is obvious that Chelsea, Isaiah, and the entire Green Hill crew are first and foremost client-focused and -centered. They completed a beautiful renovation (including kitchen, bathroom, new laundry room, and floor refinishing) of our 1960s rental apartment. Chelsea immediately understood our priorities and the design work was incredibly efficient and impressive. Isaiah was in constant communication with us and the crew, and addressed all of our questions and concerns immediately. Professional every step of the way ! Clearly states what will be done in your contract. Very experienced team that does the manual labor. We have a unique house built in 1875 and we needed work on the foundation where the house had to slightly be lifted to address the issue. I would only let a very experienced team handle something like that !!
Everything went smoothly and the area was kept clean when it was a multiple day project. Prices are very fair and affordable and when something is discovered during the repairs there  is prompt communication if something else needs to be addressed and the cost. Would highly recommend this team for any home improvement or repair!

Addendum: 9/30/24: more projects on our old farm house !  We needed repairs to our front porch and our front living room … they were sinking into the ground due to the age of our house … Green hill is a solid team with very experienced workers. They matched all of our old wood that was tongue and groove hardwood , they stabilized our foundation and floor and made the existing and repaired front porch come together seamlessly. I can’t recommend this team enough! Give them a call when you’re looking for repairs and redesign. I will continue to use them as I restore my farm house.

Addendum 6/10/25: the porch painting started to peel and come off. I messaged green hill  and they immediately responded and listened to my concerns. They noted it was under warranty and that they would come fix it as soon as possible and apologized for any inconvenience. This team stands by their work and are always professional. We have loved the addition that Greenhill did for us. They were great at communicating with us, accommodating our needs, and listening to our feedback. They came in on budget and under time. Chelsea and her crew were so wonderful to work with! From the preconstruction meeting to the post-construction home cleaning! I wasn't always the easiest client (from selection changes to a surgery that had me homebound during the work) but Isaiah, the project manager, showed exceptional patience with me; and all of the trades people working in my home were respectful, neat and timely. The demo/framing crew even played with my dogs! All in all I am thrilled with my dream sunroom addition and so very grateful I chose Chelsea and Green Hill Contracting to bring my vision to reality!
